Sponsored Product Ads (SPA)

Sponsored Product Ads help you to prominently advertise your offers on the Kaufland marketplaces and in the Kaufland app. These ads help you set yourself apart from competitors and display your top offers to customers on the Kaufland marketplaces at exactly the right moment.

Where are Sponsored Product Ads displayed?

Sponsored Product Ads can be activated on category, search result and product details pages. As the page layout is updated from time to time as part of optimisation processes, the positioning of elements may vary.

Where and how do customers see my ads?
Based on the products you’re promoting, relevant keywords are matched with the search terms entered by customers. When a customer uses search terms relevant to your products, there is a chance that your Sponsored Product Ads will appear alongside other products on the search results or category page. Your Sponsored Product Ads can also appear on product details pages.

Where are users taken when they click on my ad?
When a user clicks on your Sponsored Product Ads, they are taken directly to your product details page.

What does performance-based mean?
Sponsored Product Ads are a performance-based advertising format – this means that you don’t pay for Impressions, but only for the actual clicks that take users to your product details pages. If your ads are shown as often as you like but nobody clicks on them, you won’t be charged.

Creating your SPA campaign
Campaign review and management

Campaign review

Campaigns are not checked manually before going live. Once you have set up and activated your campaign, it goes live immediately. However, it may take a little while before the first ads appear. Please note that campaigns which breach legal provisions or for which the necessary usage rights are lacking will be deactivated by Kaufland Global Marketplace.

Manage active campaigns

You can pause, reactivate or end any active campaign in the campaign overview or on the dashboard. You can also adjust the duration and budget of your campaign, and you have the option to pause or add specific products or keywords to your campaigns. To do this, select the relevant tabs on the dashboard.

Edit product selection: You can add products to the campaign page at any time – simply click the “Add products” button on the right-hand side of the screen. It is not possible to remove products from the campaign; however, you can pause them by clicking on the status and confirming your selection.

Update your budget: You can increase or decrease your daily or total budget settings as often as you like by clicking “Edit campaigns” on the campaign page.

Monitoring your budget: As soon as one of your campaigns reaches its budget limit, the message “Budget exhausted” will appear in the “Status” column. At the top of the campaign page, you can also see an overview of the remaining budget.

Change bids: For campaigns using a manual bidding strategy, you can set bids for each product or keyword (depending on the bid type selected) and change them at any time in the campaign dashboard. To do this, tick the box next to the relevant product image or keyword and select the “Change bid” option from the “Select action” drop-down menu. Alternatively, you can click directly on a bid link in the table to adjust the relevant bid.

Edit ad display: The ad creative for your campaign is generated automatically and cannot be edited.

Please note: Once a campaign has ended, it cannot be reactivated.

Please note:If you have selected the manual keyword strategy, you will see the “Keywords” and “Negative keywords” tabs. Here you can edit, remove or add new manual keywords.

Please note: If a product is already being promoted in other campaigns, you will see the message “Part of a campaign” below it. Clicking on this link will show you which campaigns the product is featured in. We do not recommend promoting the same products in several campaigns at the same time.

How do I create successful SPA campaigns?
  1. Product selection
  • Promote products that are in stock and win the BuyBox.
  • Avoid promoting products with poor customer reviews and focus on products with good customer reviews.
  1. Product data
  • Please ensure that the products are assigned to the correct category.
  • Provide accurate and detailed product data, including information such as the product title, image and description.
  • Make sure your product data is relevant to your preferred keywords, for example by including the category name in the product title.

  1. Campaign structure & settings
  • Organise your SPA campaigns by category so that the algorithm can generate consistent keywords for your products.
  • When using an automatic bidding strategy, include products from the same category and a similar price range.
  • Avoid promoting the same products in several campaigns at the same time.
  • To ensure reliable results, campaigns should ideally run for at least three to four weeks or until each product has generated 100 clicks.
  1. Bids
  • We recommend using the automatic bidding strategy to get started.
  • Make sure your bids are competitive by adjusting your target ACoS based on ad performance and budget utilisation. When submitting a manual bid, bid at least 10% more than the average winning bid.
  • Place higher bids on best-selling products and those you want to promote most.
  1. Budget
  • Set the budget so that at least 100 clicks can be generated for each product.
  • Monitor daily and overall budget spend to ensure that your campaigns are adequately funded and that ads can be served smoothly.
  1. Keywords
  • We recommend starting with the automatic targeting strategy to increase traffic and gain valuable insights into which keywords work best for your products.
  • Optimise your keyword list to drive more traffic to high-performing terms, and exclude or limit all other keywords.
FAQS
What is autopilot mode? (optional – only for preset campaigns)

You can activate autopilot mode to keep your campaign automatically up to date.

  • New recommended products are automatically added for the selected sales channel of your campaign. This means that the preset process for the selected sales channel is no longer available.
  • Only one autopilot campaign per sales channel is possible.

Deactivate Autopilot: You can deactivate Autopilot at any time on the campaign page. The campaign will then behave like a standard SPA campaign, with all available options.
If a preset campaign is created without Autopilot, it will behave like a standard SPA campaign.

Please note: Autopilot does not automatically change your daily budget. Please review your expenditure and increase your budget if you wish to increase the display of Sponsored Product Ads.

Why am I not seeing the preset option or “recommended products”?

This could be due to the following reasons:

  • There are currently no recommendations for this sales channel, or
  • All available recommended products are already being promoted in your existing campaigns (preset, autopilot or custom).

You can create campaigns at any time using custom campaign creation with manual product selection.

Are there any credit offers for Sponsored Product Ads?

Yes, sellers can receive advertising credits for Sponsored Product Ads. For example:

  • Credit from the Plus subscription: The Plus subscription includes a monthly SPA credit of 30 euros. This credit will be automatically deducted from your SPA expenses. There is no minimum spend, so the first €30 of your SPA advertising costs are covered every month.

Important note: This credit is calculated on a pro rata basis for the current month. Unused credit expires and cannot be carried over to the following month or paid out.

  • Credit from the Performance Coach programme: Sellers who take part in the Performance Coach programme receive a monthly credit of €30 for Sponsored Product Ads. This credit will be automatically deducted from your SPA expenses. There is no minimum spend, so the first €30 of your SPA advertising costs are covered every month.

Important note: The SPA discount begins in the second month of your membership and is valid for a period of six months. Unused credit expires at the end of the month and cannot be carried over to the following month or paid out. At present, this credit can only be used on the German marketplace Kaufland.de.

How can I use the €30 credit from the Plus subscription?

The credit of €30 will be automatically deducted from your SPA expenses and can be used across multiple marketplaces. However, if you have active campaigns running on multiple Kaufland marketplaces, you cannot choose which marketplace the credit is applied to. It will be shown on the standard SPA invoice.

  • Example: If you have active campaigns on three marketplaces and spend €10 per month on each marketplace, your credit balance will cover your total expenditure and you will not receive an invoice for that month.
  • If you spend more than €30 across all marketplaces, the credit will be deducted from your spend on one of the marketplaces; however, you cannot choose which marketplace this applies to.

Please note: Your credit balance is currently not visible on your SPA dashboard.

Is the €30 credit from the Plus subscription still available even if I haven’t activated Kaufland.de?

Yes, the €30 credit is still available even if you are not active on the German Kaufland marketplace.

How can I use the €30 credit from the Performance Coach programme?

This credit will be automatically deducted without you having to do anything.

Please note: This credit is currently only valid for the German marketplace.

Can I combine multiple credit balances for my SPA advertising campaigns?

Yes, you can combine the €30 credit from the Plus subscription or the Performance Coach programme with any additional credit to maximise your advertising budget.

Does the advertising credit expire?

Yes, advertising credits usually have an expiry date. Credits from the Plus subscription and the Performance Coach programme expire at the end of each month. Make sure you use your credit before it expires.

What are the benefits of Sponsored Product Ads?
  • Increased visibility: Products are displayed in key locations, such as on the search results page, the category page and the product details pages. As a result, your advertisements are displayed selectively to the customers who have already searched for similar products.
  • Competitive advantage: Thanks to targeted advertising you can stand out from your competitors by letting customers see your best offers at the ideal point in their customer journey. Sponsored Product Ads ensure that your offers are highlighted so that potential buyers can discover the advertised products quicker.
  • Positive long-term effects: The increased traffic can have a positive effect on the organic ranking of your offers, resulting in a sustainable increase in your visibility.
  • Control of your advertising costs: Sponsored Product Ads work according to the cost-per-click principle. This means you only pay when a customer clicks on your ad. You can control your advertising costs by specifying separate bids individually and adjusting your targeting strategy. This allows flexible and budget-friendly advertising.
How much should the starting budget be?

If you are setting up a Sponsored Product Ads campaign for the first time, you should start with a budget that will help you assess the campaign’s impact.

In most cases, it is advisable to start with a budget that generates at least 100 clicks for each advertised product (based on the bid you have set). So, if you’re promoting 5 products and your bid is 1 euro, you should start with a budget of 500 euros. Please note, however, that it takes around 2,000 clicks to provide a reliable data set for analysing key metrics such as a product’s click-through rate, conversion rate or ACoS. Once you have analysed the initial results, you can then increase or decrease the budget for each individual product.
