Two-Factor Authentication (2FA)
Two-factor authentication is a common security measure to protect your account from unauthorised access by third parties. Your account access will no longer just be controlled by a password, but also a second method of authentication.
The two-factor authentication must be set up independently by both the account owner and each additional user. 2FA is mandatory for all users within the account roles, both for main and sub-account access.
This is how to set up two-factor authentication for your Seller Portal accesses
- Navigate to Account Settings in your Seller Portal.
- Choose authentication via app and/or SMS.
- You have the option to activate one or more 2FA methods by clicking Activate or Deactivate for each. Please note that at least one authentication method must be activated.
Authentication methods
You have the following choices of 2FA methods:
1. App (recommended)
Using an OTP (one-time password) means that your app will automatically generate and show you a password which is valid for only one login consisting of a numerical code (6 digits). The OTP will be generated once and is valid for 30 seconds. After the 30 seconds are up or after the user has logged in with the OTP code, it is no longer valid and cannot be used for the next login. OTPs can be generated using a wide variety of tools (e.g. mobile, desktop or browser extension).
The OTP can be generated with an authentication app for smartphone or desktop. You can download one in the App Store or Play Store. (e.g. Google Authenticator, Microsoft Authenticator, FreeOTP).
2. SMS
If you select authentication via SMS, when logging in, all authorised account users will be asked for a security code which will be sent automatically via SMS to the phone number which is on file for the user in question. When setting up this method, please note that you must include the country-specific prefix in each telephone number – i.e. +49 for German numbers (the 0049 format is not accepted).
Increased security with a password manager
We also recommend integrating your login password into a password manager to increase security and speed up the login process. You can save and retrieve your password from the manager and log in to your seller account with just a few clicks. There is a wide range of password manager providers that are adapted to different requirements (e.g. Bitwarden).
FAQ
