EPR Management by Kaufland
Support for missing IDU numbers
In order to sell products on Kaufland.fr, you must ensure that you comply with all Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) obligations in France. This includes providing a unique identification number (IDU number) for each category in which you offer products.
Here you will find all information on the EPR requirements for France.
Product and special categories covered by our service:
You need an IDU number for each product category in which you market products in France that fall under the EPR regulation.
Examples:
- If you sell packaged electrical appliances, you need an IDU number for the packaging and a separate IDU number for the electrical appliances (WEEE).
- If the relevant electrical product also contains battery components, you will need an additional IDU number for the “batteries” category.
EPR Management by Kaufland does not cover all categories. In the following overview, you can see which product categories the service provides IDU numbers for:
| Product category | EPR code | Categories included in the service | Subcategories not included |
| Electrical and electronic equipment | EEE | Yes | EEE_MEN_CAT3 EEE_MEN_CAT7 |
| Batteries | PA | Yes | |
| Packaging | EMPAP | Yes | |
| Furniture | EA | Yes | |
| Toys | JOUET | Yes | |
| Sports and leisure items | ASL | Yes | |
| DIY garden items | ABJ | Yes | ABJ_FAM_1 |
| Do-it-yourself | DIY | Yes | |
| Chemicals | PCHIM | No. EPR Management by Kaufland does not provide IDU numbers for these categories (including subcategories). Please register independently and provide the corresponding IDU number in your seller account. | |
| Medical piercing accessories | DISP-MED | ||
| Tobacco and accessories | TABAC | ||
| Mineral or synthetic lubrication and industrial oils | LUB | ||
| Construction products and materials | PMCB | ||
Important:
Since more than 20 different categories are affected by the EPR regulation, it may be the case that a product requires multiple IDU numbers.
Example: You sell mobile phones. An iPhone requires 3 IDU numbers from the Electronic (EEE), Battery (PA), and Packaging (EMPAP) EPR categories. These are integral components of the product and/or the introduction to the French market and sale to the end customer.
How does the EPR Management by Kaufland service work?
This service provides IDU numbers for selected categories to Kaufland Global Marketplace sellers. These numbers are required for sales in France. If you do not enter your own IDU numbers for your categories, our service provides you with the required numbers. These are then automatically assigned to your categories – without you having to activate the service separately.
Please note:
This service is automatically activated when you start onboarding for Kaufland.fr and must be manually deactivated by you in the Seller Portal if you do not wish to use it.
To deactivate the service, turn off the toggle switch in the Seller Portal under Shop settings > EPR Compliance. As soon as you have deactivated the service, the IDU numbers provided by EPR Management by Kaufland are automatically removed from your categories and the corresponding offers are hidden.

Which services are included?
EPR Management by Kaufland provides the following services:
- Hassle-free selling: If you do not enter your own IDU numbers for your categories, our service will provide you with the required numbers and enter them in your Seller Portal. Separate registration of your product categories is no longer necessary.
- Automatic provision of information: The eco-participation fees are automatically included in your offers and the corresponding take-back conditions for the obligation to take back end-of-life products are included in your GTCs.
- Transparent reporting: Monthly reports on your sales and the corresponding eco-participation fees are available to you in the Seller Portal.
- Simplified quantity report: Your sales history and eco-participation fees are automatically transmitted to the relevant Producer Responsibility Organisation (PRO).
- Automated payment: The service pays the eco-participation fees on your behalf based on your sales. The costs incurred are invoiced accordingly without additional surcharges and debited from your seller account.
- No missed deadlines: The required EPR reports relating to your sales and the amount of eco-participation fees are submitted on time.
Which EPR obligations for sellers does the service not cover?
Please note that you are responsible for fulfilling the following obligations independently, as they are not covered by the service:
1. Legal invoice details
As a seller, you are responsible for correctly displaying the legally required information on the customer invoice. In France, this includes, among other things, displaying the eco-participation fee (environmental fee) for electronic products (EEE) and furniture. All relevant information on Eco Participation in France can be found here.
2. Specifications for your shipping packaging
Correct labelling of the packaging for your shipping packaging. Read more about this here.
3. Repairability and durability index
The seller is still responsible for uploading the repairability and durability indexes for affected products. Missing information on repairability and durability can result in your offers being hidden.
4. Information on return options in your GTCs
The corresponding return conditions for the obligation to take back old products must be included in your General Terms and Conditions (GTCs) in the Seller Portal under Shop Settings and “Legal texts” in the GTCs tab. You are responsible for obtaining information about the take-back options offered by your responsible PRO.
Cost overview
The costs for the service are broken down as follows:
- Service fee:
€1.90 per product category for which an IDU number is used, per month
The service fee is charged for the automated calculation and payment of environmental contributions and the timely submission of the required reports to recognised PROs. - Environmental contributions:
Statutory fees that are incurred depending on the product category and sales volume. The amount of the fees is based on the official PRO rates. EPR Management by Kaufland pays these fees on behalf of sellers. The costs incurred are passed on to sellers on a one-to-one basis without a commission surcharge and invoiced accordingly. Billing occurs on a monthly basis.
Example invoice

- A seller sells products in 6 categories on Kaufland.fr.
- Some products contain battery components.
- All products are dispatched to the customer in packaging.
- Therefore, the seller also uses the 2 special categories “Battery” and “Packaging” (6 product categories + 2 special categories = 8 categories).
- In this example, the seller pays a monthly service fee of €15.20 plus VAT (€1.90 x 8) for all 8 categories.
- Depending on the product category and sales volume, the eco-participation fees also apply.
Simplified reporting details
Our current EPR Management by Kaufland service operates under a ‘simplified reporting’ model. This model is governed by strict annual quantity thresholds established by Producer Responsibility Organisations (PROs).
These thresholds are specific to each EPR category and based on various metrics, including the number of affected items sold and/or the total weight of all products sold in kilograms per year.
If a seller exceeds the threshold for a particular EPR category for their sales on Kaufland Global Marketplace within a calendar year, the reporting model must transition from simplified reporting to detailed reporting.
The following table outlines the thresholds associated with each EPR category:
| Category | Threshold for Kaufland.fr |
| Electronic and electric products (WEEE) | <5 tons total product weight of all products sold |
| Sports & leisure products (ASL) | <5 tons total product weight of all products sold |
| DIY & gardening products – with combustion engine | <5 tons total product weight of all products sold |
| DIY garden items – without combustion engine | <15 tonnes total weight or 10,000 products sold |
| Furniture (EA) | <15 tonnes total weight or 10,000 products sold |
| Toys (JOUET) | <15 tonnes total weight or 10,000 products sold |
| Device batteries (PA) | <10,000 batteries and none weighing more than 1kg among all products sold |
| Household packaging & graphic paper (EMPAP) | – |
Frequently asked questions (FAQ):
Will I be informed if I exceed the thresholds?
We are committed to closely monitoring these thresholds on your behalf. Should there be any risk of exceeding a threshold, we will promptly inform you and provide guidance on the next steps.
What happens if I exceed a threshold?
The online marketplace reserves the right to exclude sellers from the “EPR Management by Kaufland” service if the seller’s sales volume (e.g. in terms of quantity or weight) exceeds the threshold specified by the relevant eco-organisations for a simplified quantity declaration. The determination of whether the threshold has been exceeded is based on historical data or, if this is not available, on estimates by the online marketplace. The seller shall be notified of their exclusion in writing with reasonable notice.
When can I expect a solution from Kaufland Global Marketplace?
We are actively developing solutions to accommodate high-volume sellers who require this level of reporting. In the meantime, it is crucial to maintain the highest degree of accuracy in managing the simplified reporting process to ensure compliance and avoid any disruptions.
We want to further enhance our EPR service to better support high-volume sellers by the end of the year.
As a seller, are there any further obligations under the EPR law that I must comply with regardless of service usage?
Yes, as a seller you must comply with further Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) obligations in France.

Can I activate and deactivate the service at any time?
Yes, you can activate and deactivate the service as you wish in the Seller Portal. As soon as you deactivate the service and no longer provide your own IDU number, your offers on Kaufland.fr will be deactivated. Your decision to use our service will be included in our monthly billing process.
Which IDU numbers do I need? Do I require more than one?

- If the electrical product concerned also contains battery components, you will also need an IDU for the “batteries” category.
Why are most of my items on Kaufland.fr blocked?
Since over 20 product categories are affected by Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) in France, all of which require valid IDU numbers for your offers to be active, it is likely that you will need a combination of several IDU numbers.
Example:
