EPR Management by Kaufland

Support for missing IDU numbers

In order to sell products on Kaufland.fr, you must ensure that you comply with all Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) obligations in France. This includes providing a unique identification number (IDU number) for each category in which you offer products.

Here you will find all information on the EPR requirements for France.

Product and special categories covered by our service:

You need an IDU number for each product category in which you market products in France that fall under the EPR regulation.

Examples:

  • If you sell packaged electrical appliances, you need an IDU number for the packaging and a separate IDU number for the electrical appliances (WEEE).
  • If the relevant electrical product also contains battery components, you will need an additional IDU number for the “batteries” category.

EPR Management by Kaufland does not cover all categories. In the following overview, you can see which product categories the service provides IDU numbers for:

EPR Management does not issue IDU numbers for these categories (including sub-categories).

Please register independently and enter the corresponding IDU number in your seller account.

Since more than 20 different categories are affected by the EPR regulation, it may be the case that a product requires multiple IDU numbers.

Example: You sell mobile phones. An iPhone requires 3 IDU numbers from the Electronic (EEE), Battery (EA), and Packaging (EMPAP) EPR categories. These are integral components of the product and/or the introduction to the French market and sale to the end customer.

How does the EPR Management by Kaufland service work?

This service provides IDU numbers for selected categories to Kaufland Global Marketplace sellers. These numbers are required for sales in France. If you do not enter your own IDU numbers for your categories, our service provides you with the required numbers. These are then automatically assigned to your categories – without you having to activate the service separately.

This service is automatically activated when you start onboarding for Kaufland.fr and must be manually deactivated by you in the Seller Portal if you do not wish to use it.

To deactivate the service, turn off the toggle switch in the Seller Portal under Shop settings > EPR Compliance. As soon as you have deactivated the service, the IDU numbers provided by EPR Management by Kaufland are automatically removed from your categories and the corresponding offers are hidden.

Which services are included?

EPR Management by Kaufland provides the following services:

  • Hassle-free selling: If you do not enter your own IDU numbers for your categories, our service will provide you with the required numbers and enter them in your Seller Portal. Separate registration of your product categories is no longer necessary.
  • Automatic provision of information: The eco-participation fees are automatically included in your offers and the corresponding take-back conditions for the obligation to take back end-of-life products are included in your GTCs.
  • Transparent reporting: Monthly reports on your sales and the corresponding eco-participation fees are available to you in the Seller Portal.
  • Simplified quantity report: Your sales history and eco-participation fees are automatically transmitted to the relevant Producer Responsibility Organisation (PRO).
  • Automated payment: The service pays the eco-participation fees on your behalf based on your sales. The costs incurred are invoiced accordingly without additional surcharges and debited from your seller account.
  • No missed deadlines: The required EPR reports relating to your sales and the amount of eco-participation fees are submitted on time.
Which EPR obligations for sellers does the service not cover?

Please note that you are responsible for fulfilling the following obligations independently, as they are not covered by the service:

1. Legal invoice details
As a seller, you are responsible for correctly displaying the legally required information on the customer invoice. In France, this includes, among other things, displaying the eco-participation fee (environmental fee) for electronic products (EEE) and furniture. All relevant information on Eco Participation in France can be found here.

2. Specifications for your shipping packaging
Proper labelling of your shipping packaging. Read more about this here.

3. Repairability and durability index
The seller is still responsible for uploading the repairability and durability indexes for affected products. Missing information on repairability and durability can result in your offers being hidden.

4. Information on return options in your GTCs
The corresponding return conditions for the obligation to take back old products must be included in your General Terms and Conditions (GTCs) in the Seller Portal under Shop Settings and “Legal texts” in the GTCs tab. You are responsible for obtaining information about the take-back options offered by your responsible PRO.

Cost overview

The costs for the service are broken down as follows:

  • Service fee:
€1.90 per product category for which an IDU number is used, per month.
The service fee is charged for the automated calculation and payment of environmental fees and the timely submission of the required reports to recognised PROs.
  • Environmental fees:
Statutory fees that are incurred depending on the product category and sales volume. The amount of the fees is based on the official PRO rates. EPR Management by Kaufland pays these fees on behalf of sellers. The costs incurred are passed on to sellers on a one-to-one basis without a commission surcharge and invoiced accordingly. Billing occurs on a monthly basis.
Example invoice
  • A seller sells products in 6 categories on Kaufland.fr.
  • Some products contain battery components.
  • All products are dispatched to the customer in packaging.
  • Therefore, the seller also uses the 2 special categories “Battery” and “Packaging” (6 product categories + 2 special categories = 8 categories).
  • In this example, the seller pays a monthly service fee of of €15.20 plus VAT (€1.90 × 8) for all 8 categories.
  • Depending on the product category and sales volume, the eco-participation fees also apply.
Simplified reporting

The EPR Management by Kaufland service operates under a “simplified reporting” model. This model is governed by strict annual quantity thresholds established by Producer Responsibility Organisations (PROs) in France.

These thresholds are specific to each EPR category and based on various metrics, including the number of affected items sold and/or the total weight of all products sold in kilograms per year.

If a seller exceeds the threshold for a particular EPR category for their sales on Kaufland.fr within a calendar year, the reporting model must transition from simplified reporting to detailed reporting.

The following table outlines the thresholds associated with each EPR category:

CategoryThreshold for Kaufland.fr
Electronic and electric products (WEEE)<5 tonnes total weight of all products sold
Sport & Outdoor (ASL)<5 tonnes total weight of all products sold
DIY garden items – with combustion engine<5 tonnes total weight of all products sold
DIY garden items – without combustion engine<15 tonnes total weight or
10,000 products sold
Furniture (EA)<15 tonnes total weight or
10,000 products sold
Toys (JOUET)<15 tonnes total weight or
10,000 products sold
Batteries (PA)<10,000 batteries, none of which weigh more than 1 kg, among all products sold
Packaging (EMPAP)

On 1st July 2026, the “EPR Management by Kaufland” service will switch to detailed standard reporting for declaring the quantities of products placed on the French market. Quantity declarations based on the “simplified reporting method” used to date will only remain valid until 30th June 2026

Standard reporting

This model complies with the reporting guidelines issued by Producer Responsibility Organisations (PROs), which all marketplaces are required to follow. Under the standard reporting model, the eco-contribution fee is calculated based on:

  • the EPR category of the product,
  • the number or weight of products sold,
  • product attributes such as weight, length, screen size or volume of each product sold,

Fees per item are calculated based on the official price lists published by the relevant PROs.

For sellers using the EPR Management by Kaufland service, Kaufland Global Marketplace submits the required data to the authorities on time, pays the eco-contribution fee on your behalf in advance, and reimburses it via your monthly invoice. These costs will simply be billed later via the monthly invoice.

Please note: The price lists containing the eco-contribution fees are available here.

Which product data is required?

Kaufland Global Marketplace calculates the eco-contribution fee using the current product data existing on the marketplace. Providing complete product data ensures that the calculation of the eco-contribution fees for your items is as accurate as possible. Incorrect or incomplete product data may result in incorrect and potentially higher eco-contribution fees.

Depending on the EPR category of your product, different data is required:

In the event of missing or incorrect data, Kaufland Global Marketplace will perform the reporting on your behalf based on the stored product data. This may affect the classification of your products and could result in higher fees for you if the required data is missing or incorrect.

How to provide your product data

To ensure your products are categorised correctly and your future fees are calculated accurately in accordance with the standard reporting method, please go through the following steps:

Step 1 – Review the environmental fees
  • In the Seller Portal, download the ‘EPR reports’ report. To do this, go to Reports > Request reports > Offered items > Kaufland.fr > ‘EPR reports’
  • You will find the requested file under Reports > Processed Reports. Review how each of your products has been categorised and which fees apply to your products
Step 2 – Check your fees against the price list
  • Compare the fees assigned by the system with the price lists to ensure there are no discrepancies in the fee amounts or product categorisation.
  • If the EPR category, eco-code or eco-contribution fees differ, follow the instructions in step 3.
Step 3a – Correct your product data

If the product data assigned to your offers is incorrect or incomplete, you can update your product data using one of the three options below. Your suggestions are checked by an automated prioritisation system before being applied to your products on the marketplace.

Correction per product: via the Seller Portal

  • Open the Seller Portal and go to Offers > Kaufland.fr.
  • Select the offer you want to update.
  • Open the “Product data” tab and then the “Attributes” tab.
  • Select the attribute you want to provide data for – e.g. Weight.
  • Fill in the data and click “Send suggestion.
  • Repeat this for other products.

Bulk upload: via CSV file

  • Open the Seller Portal and go to Reports > Product Data > Kaufland.fr.
  • Download the report “EPR attributes of your products” (only available for Kaufland.fr).
  • Delete columns that don’t apply to your products – e.g. “screen_size” if you don’t sell TVs.
  • Fill in the missing data or correct any errors. Leave existing correct data as is.
  • Save the file.
  • Upload the file via Product Data Imports.

Bulk upload: via API

  • Transfer your product data via the Marketplace Seller API.
  • Refer to the Seller API documentation.
  • Use the column names from the CSV template above if you need help with attribute names and format.

Please note:

In the event of missing or incorrect data, Kaufland Global Marketplace will perform the reporting on your behalf based on the stored product data. This may affect the classification of your products and could result in higher fees for you if the required data is missing or incorrect.

Step 3b – Dispute incorrect product categorisation and attributes

You can make use of our EPR dispute process if:

  • you have already attempted to update your product data and it is still incorrect
  • the EPR category, eco-code or eco-contribution fee assigned to your product(s) is incorrect (e.g. classified as furniture when it should be a toy, incorrect eco-code or eco-contribution fee).

To submit a dispute:

  1. Enter the Seller Portal and go to EPR Compliance page for Kaufland.fr or to the offer detail page of the affected offer.
  2. Click the dispute classification button (CTA).
  3. Submit the details via the contact form by selecting Seller Portal > EPR and choosing the dispute reason.

Please note:

It may take several weeks to process the dispute.

Step 4 – Final check

Once your changes have been processed:

  • Download the “EPR attributes of your products” report again.
  • Verify that your updated fees and categorisations have been applied correctly.

Please complete these steps by 30th June 2026. From 1st July 2026, standard reporting will apply to all calculations of eco-contribution fees.

FAQ
Which IDU numbers do I need? Do I require more than one?

You need an IDU number for each product category in which you bring products to the market in France and which falls under the EPR regulation. Since there are over 20 such categories, it is likely that you will need a combination of several IDU numbers to activate your offers.

Examples:

  • If the electrical product concerned also contains battery components, you will also need an IDU for the “batteries” category.
  • If you sell packaged electrical appliances, you need one IDU number for the packaging and a separate IDU for the electrical appliances (WEEE).
As a seller, how can I stay below these thresholds?

EPR Management by Kaufland monitors these thresholds on your behalf. If sales on Kaufland.fr are expected to reach a threshold, you will be informed immediately. You will also receive further instructions on what to do next.

What happens if I exceed the threshold?

The online marketplace reserves the right to exclude sellers from the “EPR Management by Kaufland” service if the seller’s sales volume (e.g. in terms of quantity or weight) exceeds the threshold specified by the relevant eco-organisations for a simplified quantity declaration. The determination of whether the threshold has been exceeded is based on historical data or, if this is not available, on estimates provided by Kaufland Global Marketplace. The seller shall be notified of their exclusion in writing with reasonable notice.

When will the EPR Management by Kaufland service be extended to sellers whose sales already exceed the specified thresholds?

Kaufland Global Marketplace is actively working to expand its services so that it can offer the right solution to all sellers. You will be notified as soon as the service becomes available to sellers whose sales have already exceeded the specified thresholds.

As a seller, are there any further obligations under the EPR law that I must comply with regardless of service usage?

Yes, as a seller you must comply with further Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) obligations in France.

Where and when will I be charged the service fee?

There is a monthly service fee for using EPR Management by Kaufland, which you can find as usual in your monthly invoice. The fee consists of the service fee and product-related environmental fees. You can find detailed information here.

Can I activate and deactivate the service at any time?

Yes, you can activate and deactivate the service as you wish in the Seller Portal. As soon as you deactivate the service and no longer provide your own IDU number, your offers on Kaufland.fr will be deactivated. Your decision to use our service will be included in our monthly billing process.

Why are most of my items on Kaufland.fr blocked?

Since over 20 product categories are affected by Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) in France, all of which require valid IDU numbers for your offers to be active, it is likely that you will need a combination of several IDU numbers.

Example:

If you sell packaged electrical appliances, you will need an IDU number for the packaging as well as a separate IDU number for the electrical appliances (WEEE).

Please check whether all the necessary IDU numbers are saved in your seller account. You can also make use of our EPR Management by Kaufland service in France at any time. You can find an overview of all product categories covered here.

Where can I get additional support to find out which IDU numbers are required for my items?

Please refer to our overview of all EPR product categories covered by our EPR Management by Kaufland service in France for guidance.. You can find out which additional categories are affected by extended producer responsibility (EPR) in France and how you can register for further IDU numbers with the relevant authorities here.
