Success Story: Kaufland Global Marketplace & Bambule

Success Story Bambule

Great success with the smallest target group: How toy seller Bambule is delighting children across Europe with the Kaufland marketplaces

The Czech company Bambule has been setting children’s hearts aflutter since 1992. Founded as an extension of wholesaler Alltoys, Bambule started off as a classic retail business for toys and has offered online sales since 2016. Along with operations of its own online shop, the company has branched out to selling on online marketplaces. The cooperation with Kaufland Global Marketplace was sparked when the Kaufland marketplace launched on the Czech e-commerce scene.

“I would go so far as to say that we were one of the first sellers on Kaufland.cz”, says Adam Krajčovič, e-commerce manager at Bambule. “While other companies were still on the fence, we identified the new Kaufland marketplace as a strong player whose potential we wanted to leverage for our online business. Especially when we had a look at the solid growth of Kaufland.de, we knew that selling in the Czech Republic with Kaufland Global Marketplace was the right decision.”

Kaufland Global Marketplace is an all-in-one solution that allows online sellers to use a single registration to sell nationally and internationally on all the Kaufland marketplaces in Germany, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Poland, Austria, Italy and France. The networked multi-marketplace technology allows centralised management of all offers, orders and product data from a single portal.

The great sales Bambule achieved, especially in the Baby & Child category, validated Krajčovič’s decision. Children’s toys, baby accessories, outdoor items such as balance bikes, pedal bikes, bouncy castles or books – the large product range sells well on the German and Czech Kaufland marketplaces. “Just two weeks after we launched on Kaufland.cz, we also cracked the German marketplace”, Krajčovič adds. The company now sells on all seven Kaufland marketplaces. By selling on Kaufland.de, Bambule can offer its products to a wider target group. In the time since the launch, sales on the German market have overtaken Czech sales. “It was a breeze to add Kaufland.de in the Kaufland Marketplace Seller Portal. Now we are managing our activity centrally with the help of the multi-marketplace technology. This means we hardly need to put in any extra work to sell on other Kaufland marketplaces and achieve great international sales. The simplicity of this all-in-one solution absolutely makes Kaufland Global Marketplace the optimal platform for sellers who want to launch in new countries.”

Trend-centred buying behaviour vs. well-known customer habits: The differences in Bambule’s multi-channel sales model

Sellers on the Kaufland marketplaces offer a huge range of products across more than 6,400 categories: From electronics to furniture, fashion to kitchenware and outdoor to sport essentials – a diverse target group can all get their needs met.

“It’s fascinating to see how demand for our products varies between the sales channels. We can see that the most popular products on our own online shop are different from the ones purchased most often on the Kaufland marketplaces”, Krajčovič enthuses. “Sales on Kaufland.de and Kaufland.cz are increasingly subject to seasonal fluctuations and strongly influenced by trends. In the summer months, when the weather is nice, the outdoor items sell especially well. For example, there’s a high demand for sandboxes. We also noticed that country-specific target groups show different buying behaviour on the individual Kaufland marketplaces. These observations are crucial for us. We use them as the basis to tailor our marketing activity and increase our sales.”

Bambule is one of many sellers who operate on the online marketplaces as an extension of their sales channels, using them in addition to their own online shops. In addition to expanding the target group, selling via online marketplaces offers further advantages: “We are seeing that marketplaces are becoming increasingly relevant for the e-commerce business. That’s why being active on marketplaces is firmly established in our online strategy”, Krajčovič says.

Collaborative partnership based on mutual respect: Long-term partnership paves the way for sustainable success

“What makes working with Kaufland Global Marketplace so special is the sales support we receive as a seller. With our collaborative partnership, we have a personal contact partner, not just a hotline or an e-mail inbox. And our contact partner helps us with every question or problem that arises. We also discuss performance optimisation potential in regular feedback discussions. This individual support sets Kaufland apart from other marketplaces”, reveals Krajčovič. Our experience with another large international marketplace paints a very different picture: There, you are left to your own devices with your account and have to find your way around on your own. There’s no personal support.”

Our Seller Support also covers a range of further services which can be taken advantage of when needed. “Marketing features like Sponsored Product Ads help us increase the visibility of our products. However, we are relying in particular on the services of Kaufland Global Marketplace for our expansion plans. The automatic product data translation and 1st-level customer support in the local language helps us overcome the language barrier”, Krajčovič explains.

With a strong focus on the needs of sellers, Kaufland Global Marketplace is constantly developing new services, bringing it ever closer to its goal of offering sellers the ideal sales platform. The toy company has already come a long way from its beginnings as a brick-and-mortar retail location to where it is now, a multi-channel seller. But he does not want to rest on his laurels: “To be successful in the long term, companies must remain flexible in their business model. They always need to adapt to new circumstances. We’ve already mastered digitalisation. Now we’re setting a top priority on our business’s international growth”, says Krajčovič. “We’re happy to have Kaufland Global Marketplace as a strong partner at our side for this mission, to grow further together and to add more marketplaces!”
